About African Book Fair

2026 Theme:

Rewriting the Future: African Stories, Power & Possibility

The African Book Fair is a leading public platform for African books, ideas, and cultural exchange. Hosted annually by Soma Nami Books, the Fair brings together writers, publishers, readers, educators, and cultural practitioners from across Africa and the diaspora.

Now entering its fourth edition, the Fair continues to grow as a key cultural and intellectual event in Kenya and the wider region, championing African storytelling, strengthening reading culture, and creating meaningful connections between books and society.

The 2026 edition centers African storytelling as a transformative force that actively shapes how power is understood, negotiated, and redistributed across societies. It moves beyond storytelling as cultural expression alone and positions it as a tool for civic imagination, economic agency, identity formation, and technological innovation.

At its core, the theme asks a central question: How do stories become systems of influence that actively shape Africa’s present and future?

This edition will explore how narratives—written, spoken, performed, and digitally produced—function as instruments of influence in politics, markets, culture, and emerging technologies. It foregrounds African writers, creators, and thinkers as architects of possibility, not just chroniclers of experience.
